To get them ready there is a method that is not so obvious, I hope my photo makes it clearer. I would suggest getting the pole (one at a time) assembled and then locking at a height you like (the bottom lock). then pull in the green direction. It will take some force, I would say equivalent to lifting 15 kilos. When the silver ball appears (outlined in Red in my photo) allow it to release and that will lock the other elements.
