It's heavy and well built and perfect for his desk. The only thing to mention is there's no felt or cork on the bottom so I'll be adding myself so furniture doesn't get scratched. This is such a fun little lamp! It is USA made (Texas) and is meticulously made. All the parts are upcycled piping and electrical components; a gear, a bearing, pipe and pipe elbows, and an electrical switch. It adds charm to wherever you decide to put it. One thing to note, at least from my experience: the Edison lightbulbs give off quite a bit of heat so be careful when touching the lamp grill encircling the bulb. I've also found that a 40W bulb best allows you to see the filament as there is no shade for the lamp. And, it's very heavy so it's unlikely to get knocked over accidently. You'll love it if you like this kind of thing!

I was worried that it would be slightly too big, but it's the perfect size for my desk. Although its smooth on the bottom, I added a few thin adhesive foam pads to the base, just to make sure that it doesn't scratch my wood desk if moved.
