The one for the whale are included, remote requires 2 AA batteries which are not included. The pairing of the whale and the remote was very easy to do, just turn on the remoter and place the whale in the water.The remote is easy to use and includes a button to make the whale spray a stream, like a blowhole. The nice feature is the whale will only work in water so if your little ones or big ones leave it laying around it will not run down the batteries.
