Yes you can take the cover off to wash in the mahican on cold. The buttons on each side are attached by threads, don't cut or pull on the thread. It is difficult to see but if you follow these steps you will learn the trick. You can push the button from the outside into the hole it covers. This is how I did it. I lay the pillow flat on the bed. Unzip the outter casing (the inner casing contains the lose cotton material so don't unzip that), then I use my body to push down on the pillow. With one hand reach inside the pillow to touch the button from the inside. The other hand from the outside touching the same button and push it through the little hole. It is like a button on a sweater but super hard to see the hole and to push it through it. Once you realize there's a hole you can easily use your body weight to help push down the pillow and use some force to push the button through the hole. I hope this helps. I purchased two for our Cal King bed. Very happy!

They are sewn on to the inside material. An extra is not available in case one falls off. That is a negative and the only one so far. Bought a total of 5 so far. Quality product worth the cost. They have gotten a lot of use and look as nice as the day they arrived. Have not needed any repairs so no idea about manufacturers support.

I use a mattress protector as well. We used to do a couch cover but I always thought it looked ugly. The only thing I didn't like about doing a daybed was it was too deep and hard to get up. I was so happy to find this. I still put some pillows in front of it but it is so much more comfortable. It feels more like a regular couch now. It fits absolutely perfectly!
