A shoe with a very thick [or "loop" at the top of the heel may be an issue, but she can even handle that by just positioning the "shoehorn" just to the side if the midpoint. They spread far enough to fit on the back of my sneakers and I don't need to use a shoe horn as these do the same thing and I don't have to hold on to the handle to be able to slide my foot into my shoes. He slides them onto his shoes, and when it's time to get dressed, they're ready to go. He does say that they do not work quite as well on his softer shoes with a softer heel, but they still work alright.
