He can't sit up completely straight like the photo shows, but he can still lean back and slightly forward. So considering that, maybe if he had more stuffing he would be able to sit up better and like the photo shows. Other than that, I am so glad that I purchased this elephant because it is so comfortable and soft to sleep with and it matches my room perfectly. It's the perfect elephant to cuddle with or use as decoration.
