You need to use a torch lighter to continuously light the sawdust for 30 seconds to a minute. When you see smoke begin to diffuse few time , cover the lid. The lid is just to reduce the spread of smoke make more smoking into cup. if burning time is too short , there will not much smoke , because The wood chips are not completely burned. if wood chips too less, it also will make much smoking.

This smoke top works as it should and has given me zero issues. The biggest thing that needs to be said is that people giving this bad reviews saying it's not working properly are because they aren't using a butane torch to light, it explicitly says that you need one because that's what ends up pushing the smoke down into the glass that you're wanting to smoke in. You can't just use a regular lighter or even a match since that will only light it and cause smoke to go upwards. In the video I posted I also show how easy it is to switch out the smoke top and add a different lid to a glass to smoke multiple cocktails at the same time. If you're buying this to use for an event or to take to a get together with a good amount of people then I'd recommend doing yourself the favor of buying more wood chips since the bag it comes with isn't a lot, enough to get you started but that's about it.
