Advancing the cutting string is not automatic and requires turning machine off and on. Reconfiguring for edging and weed cutting works OK but again is not instinctive. Noise level is good. Should be used with protective gear, full face not just eyes.

This little machine cuts well, but it gets bogged and shuts off if the grass is to built up underneath. I let my grass get too long so I had to keep backing up and starting it again a few times. If you regularly cut your grass I don't see you have this problem often. I wouldn't recommend buying this if you have a large yard.

It serves its purpose for my yard, and quite well. I will say that if you have a lot of weeds, consider buying a second battery, or just take a long break. It's pretty lightweight and holds up to these crazy weeds in the mountain west (way bigger than the dandelions of the east). I'm okay if I only get a couple years out of this… it's worth the price.

I love the fact that I no longer need premixed gas or a cord. Manual feed therefore much simpler mechanism so more reliable. String lasts a surprisingly long time. I have done quite a lot of trimming and have not used half of the spool it came with. They included an additional spool. There is no better value as I shopped around quite a bit before purchasing.

I am a female, age 72, and enjoy using this tool to tidy the yard. I didn't like the clip-on handle so I removed it. The trimmer is easier and more comfortable for me without it. The battery goes for 30 minutes and I have 2 which together provide an hour of runtime which is sufficient for my needs. My only complaint is the assembly instrucions are very poor but that is common with many products.

To do my average sized yard front sides and back would take about 4-5 battery charge cycles to complete. So yes, though I HIGHLY suggest you get this thing, I also HIGHLY suggest you buy an additional battery or three on the side. Green works has a lot of other handy items in its ecosphere, so if you need even one of their other tools, it's more than a deal.

My husband and I bought this as a trial to not having a string weed eater. Didn't want to spend a lot of money but also wanted one that won't break second time we use it. This weed eater is light to hold and easy to change the attachments, However I wish it was a little longer, so we aren't bending our back to use it. The bending of our back wasn't very comfortable. We used it three times and the first plastic blade broke mainly because it hit a fence (our own fault on that). The motor is powerful enough to cut some grass and weeds. I was wondering about the crab grass, and it did cut it eventually (took a few tries). As far as the money spent, I think it's worth it mainly for the attachments. There are cheaper stringless eaters out there so really read the reviews and decided on what you think is important to you and your household. As far as this one, it's a good trial one before we spend a heck of a lot of money on a better one.
