It's not sharp at the edges but goes from a narrow to narrow beam and is bright for ease of use close to a brighter but more diffused beam very well at the other end of the spectrum. I tend to use it around the middle of its focal range. This thing is bright enough to hurt you if you get hit by it. So far after a month or two of use, I wear it about 5 times more often than the larger one I'm using.
